Oslo (formerly Christiania or Kristiania) is the capital of Norway and the administrative centre of the Akershus region. Located in the south-eastern part of the country, the town was established in the 11th century by the king Harald III.

Despite the fact that the area of the town is nearly 500 sq km, it has “only” about 600.000 inhabitants (about 900.000 conurbations).Oslo represents one of the most important sea ports in Norway as well as it is a significant traffic junction.

The proper name Oslo is pronounced with [u] - [Uslu].
